H/E Yoweri K Museveni officiates the centenary celebrations of Mbarara Junior School.

His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda on Wednesday 24th April 2019 officiated the centenary celebrations of Mbarara Junior School. The school celebrated 108 years of existence. It was founded in 1911 by the Church Missionary Society, it was first established at Kamukuzi hill, the then headquarters of Ankole Kingdom. The school is now found at Ruharo hill, Mbarara Municipality. The school enrollment has increased from 600 pupils to 1800 pupils to date of which 1050 reside in the boarding section. The school has registered tremendous success both in academics, skilling the child and co-curricular activities. Her pupils have since 2008, passed in Division One and Two only.
Away from academics, the school has also excelled in other fields such as music dance and drama. For the last 10 years, they have been the regional champion and have never gone above sixth position in national competitions in all these years
The President began by commissioning the centenary building that will be used for vocational education and class rooms for pupils. He launched the CCTV cameras of the school and planted a tree for remembrance. In his communication the president thanked the Church (Ankole Diocese) for the good leadership of the schools. He also thanked Mr Mugume Nathan the head teacher for excellent managerial skills including honesty, frugality and corruption free service. He pledged Shs.220 million towards its construction and made cash payment of Shs. 30 million of which 20 million was for the installation of the school’s CCTV cameras to enhance its security. The President reminded Ugandans that Government prioritizes different sectors of development because of the limited resources. He said that for the past one decade, government had prioritized and registered great strides in the road and energy sectors.
State Minister for Higher Education, Chrysostom Muyingo, who represented the Education and Sports Minister, Janet Museveni, revealed that Mbarara Junior school is among the top five primary schools in the country that perform brilliantly. He attributed the school’s success to participation of all stakeholders in the management of the school. Mr. Muyingo, on behalf of Mrs. Museveni, said that Mbarara Junior School had managed to achieve a lot because of the quality of citizens that the institution has been producing for the labour market. He urged the school never to ever allow anything divert it from the outstanding positive course of action.
Ankole Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigye, commended President Museveni and the government for the recent enhancement of teachers’ salaries noting that the move will better teachers’ welfare and performance. He equally appreciated the good leadership of the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni that has, among others, addressed Examinations’ malpractices by ensuring fair competition among schools country wide. He reported that schools under Ankole Diocese have registered excellent performance both at Primary and Secondary education levels. He requested the president to help in tarmacking Ruharo Road Network that was a pledge since 2014 which the president said will follow up.
