There was a re-union of Old boys and girls at Laaki high school Bujaga on Monday 5thJune, 2023,
The Bishop of Ankole Diocese Rt Rev Assoc Prof Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa was the guest speaker.
Laaki High School Bujaga is a church founded school under Ankole Diocese which was started in 1977 and is the oldest secondary school in Rwampara. It started as a community school under the Church and was grant aided in 1977.
Laaki High School Bujaga initially was a single school for boys but it is now a mixed school with both boys and girls.
Formerly it was called Bujaga Sec School, Governance and stakeholders later resolved to rename it Laki High School in memory of a resilient christian cum local leader who had participated in safeguarding its land from land grabbers. Later on he died at the hands of dictator Idi Amin as a political martyr since he refused to go into exile even when he was warned about the impending personal danger.
The Rt Rev Prof Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa put a foundation stone on a building that the OBs and Ogs have started to construct for the girls dormitory.
The Bishop contributed 500,000 and Ankole Diocese also 500,000 towards the construction project.
Bishop preached from 1Cor 2:9, 125 students and Mr. Edgar Muhumuza accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and savior.
Mr Edgar Muhumuza a former student of Laki High School in 1980 to 1984 pledged to mobilize his cohort in order to refurbish the main hall/ dining hall up to usable standards by early 2024. He excited students with his testimony of how he used to put on rugabire “rubber tyre sandals” in his school days but because of hard work and discipline, recently he retired from UBOS and was earning 15 million per month!
Laaki High School according to Rt Rev Assoc. Prof Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa might be the most badly off school in Ankole Diocese despite being an old school. He appealed to Old boys to come to its rescue and to government to offer support to supplement parents effort.
In 2020 when the Bishop visited Laaki High School, engaged teachers about how to market and step up the effort in improving performance and discipline. With the support too of some local community members like Tumusiime and Bobs Katusiime, mobilization resulted in raising student numbers from 100 to now over 600.
To God be the Glory.
