Ankole Diocese is one of the 34 Dioceses that make up the province of church of Uganda. Ankole Diocese covers the districts of Mbarara, Ibanda, Isingiro and part of Ntungamo (ruhama County) in the southern part of Uganda. It is made up of 18 Archdeaconries, 60 Parishes, 600 Sub-Parishes!
1970 – 1992 Rt.Rev. Amos Betungura was consecrated and enthroned as the 2nd Bishop of Ankole Diocese.
1967 Ankole Diocese was created out of Ankole-Kigezi Diocese with Rt.Rev. Kosia Shalita as the first Bishop
1966 The most Rev.Eric Sabiiti enthroned as the first Ugandan and 2nd Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda, Rwanda , Burundi and Boga –Zaire.
1961 The Province of the Church of Uganda, Ruanda-Urundi and Boga-Zaire was inaugurated with the most Rev. Leslie Brown as the 1st The name later changed to the church of Uganda, Rwanda –Burundi and Boga –Zaire.
1960 Ankole – Kigezi Diocese was curved out of Uganda Diocese with Rt.Rev. Kosia Shalita as the first Bishop.
1936 emergence of the East Africa Revival movement leading to the development of lay leadership, preserved religious fervor and missionary zeal in church
1904, the first group of native Banyankole was commissioned as evangelists.
5th 1902 The king of Ankole, Omugabe Edward Solomon Kahaya and chief Minister Enganzi Nuwa Mbaguta and their wives were baptized.
2nd 1899 two missionaries, Bishop Tucker, Dr.Cook and Philip Bamulanzeki became the first church teachers in Mbarara.
May 1899 Two Baganda teachers Nuwa and Timeseo (converted to Christianity in 1893 in Buganda). They introduced Christianity to Ankole
